In the beginning, the most urgent task was to nurse the children: so I hired two women who looked after them in the absence of the father, in order to allow him to keep his job. In this way the children were constantly followed and cared for, and had to eat regularly and sufficiently. Then, in small steps (pole pole, in fact, as they say around here) over the subsequent years, we were able to improve their housing: at first it was a hut, the children slept in the open, barely sheltered by a makuti, a roof of woven palm leaves.

Now it's a real brick house, comfortable and safe, suitable to accommodate children and their caretakers.

It may be sparsely furnished, but it seems to us like a palace, as much as to call it Villa Malan!
